Club History

Posted by Barry on 2nd December 2012

Way back, in the ancient days of 1951 a small group of caver's got together to form Hereford Caving Club.

Not satisfied with the caves they already knew, some also started invading disused railway tunnels and various old mines.  Others started digging in existing caves and small holes leading to some amazing discoveries, such as Agen Allwedd (Welsh for key hole), on the Llangattock escarpment.

Today the club is small and friendly, with members scattered as far as Rugby and Somerset.  Abilities range from novice upwards.  There are regular monthly club caving trips as well as others organised informally.  These are mostly in South Wales, with weekends in Mendips, Yorkshire and North Wales.  Monthly social pub meetings are held near Hereford.
